Beauty icon
WHAT beauty product is bought somewhere in the world every 10 seconds?
According to L’Occitane Provence, it’s their shea butter hand cream, containing 20 per cent Fair Trade shea butter sourced from women’s co-operatives in Burkina Faso.
This luxurious cream nourishes the skin, cares for cuticles and boasts a light floral scent that doesn’t overpower ($14.95 for 30ml and $36.95 for 150ml).

Stimulating follicles
THE brainchild of a former Australian aeronautical engineer, Leimo hair rejuvenation technology uses low-level cold beam laser technology. Available in Australia for almost three years, Leimo has undergone clinical trials and is listed with the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods as a Class IIa medical device.
Leimo is available in Canberra at Discount Health and Fitness, Bruce.

Assembly protest
PROTESTORS against the proposed development of the controversial data centre project made their concerns heard outside the ACT Legislative Assembly, while inside Chief Minister Jon Stanhope faced a no-confidence motion over his handling of the affair. The motion was conclusively defeated 11-6 in what was seen as a failed “stunt” by Opposition Leader Zed Seselja.

Ethics advisor
STEPHEN Skehill has been appointed the Legislative Assembly’s first ethics and integrity advisor. Speaker Wayne Berry said: “Members can seek advice on a wide range of issues from the use of entitlements to potential conflicts of interest.” Mr Skehill has held the positions of Australian Government Solicitor and Secretary of the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department.

Warmth appeal
CHIEF Minister Jon Stanhope has launched the annual “Share the Warmth” appeal, urging Canberrans to donate spare blankets, doonas and warm clothing to the Salvation Army. Donations can be made at any Bell’s Dry Cleaners outlets. Bell’s will clean the items free-of-charge, ready for distribution by the Salvation Army. Since the appeal started in 1999 more than 30,000 individual items have been distributed.

Supa heroes
LOCAL organisations, such as The Eden Monaro Cancer Support Group, will be beneficiaries of East Row’s newly opened Supa IGA Plus Liquor’s participation in IGA’s national Community Chest Program, which makes annual contributions to charitable causes. The program guarantees a percentage from every purchase of products displaying the Community Chest ticket. At the end of each year, the accumulated funds are donated back to local communities, with the national total over the last five years being more than $30 million.

Swans
Lured by the glorious light of a winter’s evening, our snapper – romantic that he is – stopped his car beside the lake at Kingston and went for a ramble with his camera along the bank, stumbling across a family of nesting swans. His discovery was tempered by some passing locals who asked him not to say where the photograph was taken because errant children have stoned swans in the past. So he won’t.
