Winning colours
ACTTAB has opened a new “Superstore” in Garema Place, Civic. It features spacious, modern surroundings and bright, vibrant colours. The new TAB is part of a refurbishment program with only renovations at Mawson, Manuka, Hawker, Civic West, Conder and Fyshwick to be completed by early next year. ACTTAB’s Allara Street branch has closed.
Storing storm water
THE Government is seeking public comment to a plan to allow storm water to be pumped into underground aquifers during wetter months for storage and use on playing fields and parks in the summer and during dry periods. Planning Minister Andrew Barr said the move will help the ACT deal with drought and the impacts of climate change. Speaker scam
ATTORNEY General Simon Corbell is warning consumers to be wary of a scam in which poor-quality speakers are sold from the back of vans. “The scammers typically approach people at places like bus stops, at traffic lights or in car parks, and use high pressure and aggressive sales tactics, including accompanying the victim to an ATM to make a cash withdrawal,” he said, urging anyone who is approached to call the Office of Regulatory Services on 6207 3000.
Floriade’s spring offensive
THE Government has launched a $1 million “spring offensive” marketing campaign to encourage people to visit Canberra during Floriade and to highlight the new NightFest event. Tourism Minister Andrew Barr said Floriade and NightFest (“five exciting nights of entertainment, film screenings, night markets and food and wine all within the gates of Commonwealth Park after dark”) are being heavily advertised through television, radio, print and online media outlets nationally, with a focus on Sydney and regional NSW. .
