Cutlery by design

STUDIO William cutlery, designed by award-winning British industrial designer, William Welch, is now available in Australia.
One of the industry’s most revered designers, Welch’s work is included in permanent museum collections around the world.
Named after trees, each Studio William collection derives its aesthetic, character and personality from its namesake tree.
Available in mirror, satin and casual finishes, each piece of cutlery is ergonomically designed.
The Olive collection won the prestigious Red Dot design award in 2007 and is permanently exhibited at the Design Museum in Essen Germany. Studio William is the only non-German cutlery company to have won this award.
“Apart from our collections having a synergy with trees, from a design point of view we wanted to create feminine, elegant cutlery.  For example, the fork heads of the Karri Collection are thin and elongated and designed to make dining an elegant experience,” Welch said.
“Our designs reflect a growing trend toward pride in food presentation and a unique dining experience, not only in the restaurant but in the home.
“The best chefs create the most amazing dishes, food that should be savoured. Your standard utilitarian cutlery isn’t appropriate; the designs encourage food to be shovelled in.
“Our cutlery is designed to temper your ability to eat so quickly, so you can truly appreciate the meal – as it should be.”

Studio William is available in Canberra at David Jones and Wheel & Barrow.
