JEANS for Genes Day on August 1 provides a good excuse to don denim for a cause, or buy a badge or wristband.
Held annually on the first Friday in August, Jeans for Genes is the major fundraiser of the Children’s Medical Research Institute which researches prevention and treatment of childhood and genetic diseases, such as epilepsy, leukaemia and muscular dystrophy.
From July 26 to August 1, the innovative works of 10 entrants in the Jeans for Genes “Do it with Denim” design awards will be on display in the Canberra Centre.
It’s exciting to see how versatile this humble fabric can be in the hands of a creative “jeanius”. With CMRI turning 50 this year, the entry by ACT finalist in the awards, Ana Morris, was inspired by iconic horror films of the 1950s.
Meanwhile, for added inspiration we showcase denim designs available from some of Canberra’s leading retailers.
