Taxi incentives
Published in News on 04 December, 2008

Briefly

Taxi incentives
DRIVERS of wheelchair-accessible taxis will get incentive payments to keep their cars on the road over the festive season, to ensure that Canberrans with disabilities are able to spend time with family and friends. Chief Minister and Minister for Transport Jon Stanhope said the $150-a-day incentive would apply on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. There are 26 official wheelchair-accessible taxis in the ACT and another two taxis capable of carrying wheelchairs.

Fagan fellowships
TWO $30,000 Fellowships, named in honour of the ACT’s first female Chief of Police, the late Audrey Fagan, are now available through The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. They are open to ACT women wanting to pursue overseas research in law enforcement, care and protection, (including allied health areas).

ACT searches for senior leader
A NATIONAL recruitment process is underway to find a chief executive for the ACT Government’s new Department of Environment, Climate Change, Energy and Water.
Minister Simon Corbell says: “The new chief executive… will have one of the most senior environmental leadership roles in the ACT and nationally, with immediate priorities including pursuing market interest in the construction of a solar plant for the ACT, legislating on improved emissions targets, and implementation of the ACT’s nation leading renewable energy feed-in tariff.”
