Tracy Mackey
Labor, Brindabella
What’s your background?
I live in south Woden with my husband and three daughters. I grew up in public housing, in a single-parent family and have a brother with multiple disabilities. My personal life has certainly shaped my career and volunteer efforts in areas of social responsibility and community good.
Why do you want to be a politician?
Over the years I’ve been a foster carer, advocated for the rights of tenants, been a spokesperson for young people with complex needs, worked closely with carers and people with disabilities and fought to maintain and strengthen the social fabric of local communities. Standing as a candidate is a natural progression as I seek to represent the community.
What do you stand for?
I am particularly interested in contributing to and leading debate on: Provision of community services; town planning; role of the ACT Government in facilitating affordable housing and supporting families struggling with spiralling housing costs.
What are the key election issues?
Having been on the campaign trail since the end of March, I’ve had the opportunity to listen to the ideas and concerns that the people of Brindabella think are important. There are some key themes emerging: Housing affordability; public education system; local community facilities and infrastructure; health and environmental issues.
Why should we vote for you?
I have experience in issues important locally – affordable housing, town planning, community services, disability and carers services and community safety. I have a young family and want to ensure Canberra has a bright future, building on the features we all love and ensuring a sustainable economy.
