The fair for old wares
Published in News on 07 August, 2008

HISTORIC Albert Hall will fittingly be the venue for Canberra’s iconic Springtime Antique and Collectables Fair from August 15 to 17.
Run by the Rotary Club of Canberra City for more than 20 years, the fair is organised by Canberra antique dealers Les and Val Selkirk, who are both Rotary Paul Harris Fellows.
One of Australia’s longest running antique fairs (more than 20 years), it is also one of the most popular, with customers and antique dealers alike, queuing to be part of it.
“We are very particular about the quality of antiques and collectables offered at the fair,” Les said.
“This means that visitors and dealers can be confident that it will be a top-class show, that items for sale are genuine antiques, not reproductions, and that any restorations will be pointed out to buyers.
“As a result, visitor numbers keep increasing – this year’s autumn antique fair saw almost 3000 through the doors – and once dealers become involved, they like to keep coming back,” Les said.
The 2008 Springtime Fair features 23 antique dealers from around Australia and has a waiting list of dealers who would like to exhibit.
By attending the fair, visitors also help support local organisations that provide assistance to the less fortunate in the ACT.
This fair’s proceeds will go to the Richmond Fellowship to provide financial support for its ongoing vocational scholarships to help disadvantaged youth in the ACT region.

The fair is open on Friday, August 15, from 6-9pm; Saturday, August 16, from 10am-5.30pm and Sunday, August 17, from 10am-4pm.
