Those missing plaques…
Published in News on 07 August, 2008

SOME weeks ago “CityNews” reported that some important pieces of public art in Garema Place – the poetry plaques installed in the ground in 1999 and 2000 – had gone missing.
This proved to be news, too, to much of Canberra’s arts and municipal bureaucracy.
But the Chief and Arts Minister has finally broken his silence on “Plaquegate” saying through a spokesperson: “Given these plaques have gone missing over an extended period of time, rather than being the result of a recent spate of vandalism, the ACT Government is treating the missing plaques as a maintenance issue.
“Our priority is to ensure the plaques are promptly replaced and secured in a way that ensures they remain in place for the enjoyment of all Canberrans.”
